The Project will result in greenhouse gas emission reductions through the implementation of engine management systems that reduce the amount of fuel consumed by the engines. The technologies reduce greenhouse gas emissions in two ways.
1. Increase the air-fuel ratio
Implementation of an engine fuel management (EFM) system allows the engine to operate under lean burn conditions instead of rich burn conditions, thereby improving fuel consumption and reducing emissions
2. Capture of vented emissions
Implementation of a vent gas capture (VGC) system captures gases that would have otherwise been vented to atmosphere and feeds this gas back into the engine as a secondary fuel source, displacing some of the fuel required by the primary fuel source
