BMO Radicle: Emission Reductions from Pneumatic Devices Pool M
2877-9519
Hydrocarbon resources are extracted from below ground reservoirs by drilling production wells and flowing the produced hydrocarbon up to the surface where it is directed to processing facilities. During production, adverse conditions like freezing and corrosion can occur. As a preventative measure, chemicals are injected into the production network utilizing natural gas-driven pneumatic chemical injection pumps, which results in natural gas venting to atmosphere. Similarly, pneumatic instrument control devices used in the production network, such as level controllers, pressure controllers, and positioners, are also typically driven by natural gas. Converting these pumps and instruments to electric or air-driven alternatives will effectively eliminate this natural gas venting. The volume of the emission reduction is estimated by measuring the volume of compressed air consumed by these converted pneumatic pumps and instruments, or by measuring or calculating the volume of chemical injected by the electrified pumps and then calculating the methane that would have been emitted by the baseline equipment under functionally equivalent operating conditions. The expected lifetime of the Project is at least 10 years, or until the vented volumes are regulated by provincial or federal limits. However, subproject equipment is expected to continue operating for several years beyond the established crediting period.
